Baby, if you’ve ever wondered,
Wondered whatever became of me,
I’m living on the air in Cincinnati,
Cincinnati, WKRP.

Got kind of tired packing and unpacking,
Town to town and up and down the dial
Maybe you and me were never meant to be,
But baby think of me once in awhile.
I’m at WKRP in Cincinnati

Today I mentioned Les Nessman in conversation. You know, the guy who used tape to outline his office. Imagine how shocked I was when Les didn’t ring a bell. Les Nessman!

I wanted to be just like that Bailey Quarters. Originally in charge of billing and station traffic she gained more responsibility (and news sense) and moved to on-air reporting. A radio success story.

You know, my degree is in journalism — radio journalism specifically. (Shocking but true. For those who have never heard my voice — let’s just say it’s not exactly sonorous.)

I think the bug hit in 1978 when I tuned in to WKRP (1530 on the AM dial). (The bug hit but I didn’t catch anything…for those just tuning in, I now work in the deadly serious world of PR.)

I also enjoyed the Mary Tyler Moore Show. She wasn’t exactly a journalist but boy did she have a great apartment!

Today I was asked for ID.

I had to be asked twice. At first I was confused…”ID? Um, yeah I have ID”. And I wondered why this guy wanted to know if I had any ID with me. Why did he need to know who I was? I do carry my license around with with me but it hasn’t really served to prove my age for some time. Now it just reassures me that I could drive if I really really wanted to.

So this gave me an idea. Let me shave 12 or so years off my resume and I could go work somewhere where I could be the bright young superstar. Just think, if I knew what I know now when I first started to work, I would have skyrocketed to the top before I knew it.

Of course, this is a very dumb idea (I would be ready to retire by the time I got my own office and how would I pay my very real grown-up bills) but I had a few drinks tonight and it sounded good a few hours ago.
