bookmark_borderreading stuff and trying to read other stuff

Today I finished reading “Fish” by T.J. Parsell. It was raw, brutal and honest.

I have several other books on my shelf about prison culture and crime, racism and the abandonment of the working class. I find these topics very interesting. I can’t pretend to understand what it might be like to not live in a privileged environment but these books help me look at the world outside my middle class comfort zone.

Speaking of books, I’m only on page 55 of the novel I need to finish for my book club next week. Good thing I’m a fast reader. It would help if I liked it more but it’s still early. I need to give it more of a chance. I’m going to stop procrastinating and finish it before I start on some other books in my queue that I bought while ago, including I Have Chosen to Stay and Fight by Margaret Cho.

bookmark_bordera post only I’m interested in…

I found some better critiques (instead of ones by smug theologians) of The God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins. I had never heard of of the philosopher Michael Ruse but he makes some very interesting points . He’s said “The God Delusion makes me embarrassed to be an atheist.” I won’t go on about this stuff but if any of you — my three readers — are interested, there are a lot of interesting resources online.

On another note, the week my acid reflux, my RSI and my neck strain all got worse again. I was not really a happy camper this week. Plus, it’s so cold outside — I was getting my hopes up for a warm winter. (Yeah, I know global warming is bad news for the planet but it sure made me happy when I forced myself not to think about the melting ice shelf.)
