book club

Last night was our first bookclub meeting of 2007 and everyone was surprised I loved the book. I was surprised too!

I think this year is going to go really well even though my initial choice, The End of Faith by Sam Harris did not win the vote for the next book on our agenda.

That’s okay though since I’m thinking about proposing his latest book, Letter to a Christian Nation when it’s my turn to pick. Even if I don’t propose it, I’ll still probably read it since I’m on a (anti)religion and culture kick these days. I just finished The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice by Christopher Hitchens which I enjoyed.

I dare you to read this book [Letter to a Christian Nation]…it will not leave you unchanged. Read it if it is the last thing you do.
—Richard Dawkins, author of The Selfish Gene and The God Delusion

The other book I might suggest is The God Delusion. Or I may just come up with some stunning fiction picks. I’m so crazy and wild!

Books make me mental with joy. And book club is a hoot especially after three glasses of very nice wine and a lovely dinner.

  1. I did not like the first three stories about the med students. I thought they were trite and stupid. I’m surprised they led with those.

I did like the stories further in.
