Getting my mean pants on…

There are books that can help me with this nice business. I’ve been looking around. I think I better pick up Too Nice for Your Own Good: How to Stop Making 9 Self-Sabotaging Mistakes.

But honestly, I don’t think I sabotage myself ― I think I’m rather successful. Maybe I’m nice and lack self-awareness ― a deadly combo.

I better get my mean pants on. An article I read says that being too nice can seriously stymie one’s career growth and success. The problem with being too nice is that you’re a doormat and people take advantage of you. Nice people are too concerned about pleasing others and not making waves that they don’t stand up for themselves.

Hmmm, this is not true in my case. I’m pretty good at standing up for myself at work and I have moved up the ladder. Plus, I’m not more concerned with pleasing others than I am myself ― it’s all about me. I really am one of those career-driven, successful (seemingly) nice people. It’s an act. A big act designed to catch people off-guard while I secretly plot to have my way.

Now, who wants some cookies I brought in for us to share?
